Test Day - Save the Date!




The next Physical Fitness and Test Evaluation will take place on June 1st, 2012 at 9:00 AM at the Oklahoma City Police Department Training Center.   The Training Center is located at 800 N. Portland Ave, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Applicants will participate in a series of strength-related exercises and timed running events. Failure to achieve the required fitness level in any category will result in disqualification from further processing at that time.  Applicants who fail are allowed to retest after six months.  All or part of the physical fitness evaluation may be administered again, prior to the beginning of recruit training, to ensure the applicant has maintained a proper fitness level. The physical fitness and written examination are valid for one year.

Physical Fitness Examination

The physical fitness examination includes:
  • 27 Sit-Ups in 1 Minute
  • 300 Meter Run in 68 Seconds
  • 18 Standard Push-Ups - No Time Limit
  • 1.5 Mile Run in 15 Minutes/20 Seconds

It is important to prepare yourself for the physical fitness examination. If you do not pass either of these tests, your application will be suspended for six months.

Written Examination

The written exam includes the following:

After watching a video portraying a simulated crime, the applicant will be asked to complete a detailed description of what occurred.

     The applicant then takes a test comprised of the following:
  • 10 multiple choice questions in reference to the video
  • 25 multiple-choice vocabulary and word usage questions
  • 20 multiple-choice reading recall and comprehension questions
  • 25 multiple-choice basic math questions
  • 10 cognitive definition and logic measurements

Day One!

First Inspection!


The Oklahoma City Police Department began Recruit Class 129 this  morning at the Oklahoma City Police Training Academy.   Forty seven recruits began day one of a rigorous 1100 hours of training.

The day was comprised of formation, initial inspection, equipment issue, uniform inspection and physical training.  The Oklahoma City Police Recruits will enjoy a three day weekend before resuming training Tuesday morning.

This Police Academy will graduate December 6th, 2012. 

Congratulations and good luck to the men and women of Class 129.

Class 129 Starts!

The Oklahoma City Police Department began Recruit Class 129 Friday morning at the Oklahoma City Police Training Academy.   

This Police Academy will graduate December 6th, 2012.  The recruits will receive approximately 1100 hours of intensive training on a wide variety of law enforcement subjects.

47 Recruits
  • 12 Females
  • 35 Males 
  • Youngest Recruit - 21 
  • Oldest Recruit - 39 
  • 4 Recruits are second generation OCPD
  • 10 Recruits have military experience

Coming Events!

 

The Oklahoma City Police Department's chapter of the Black Police Officer's Association will be meeting the public and handing out informational material at The Juneteenth Celebration at Washington Park on June 16th, 2012.  

 

Washington Park is located at 400 N High Ave in Oklahoma City. 

 

The hours will be 10 AM to 6 PM.

The Application Process


Applicants will participate in a series of strength-related exercises and timed running events. Once an applicant has completed as well as passed the Physical Fitness Evaluation and the written exam they will be given a Background Investigation Book. When they receive the Background Investigations Book they will be given instructions on how it is to be completed.

After the applicant completes the Investigations Book and an Applicant Stability Rating will be established. The applicant’s application will be then assigned to a background investigator. Once applicants are considered viable candidates for the position of Police Officer they will begin a thorough background investigation.

When an applicant has passed the background investigation they will go before an employment assessment board. The assessment board's responsibility is to assess the applicant's qualities, personal characteristics and ability to perform as a police officer. A list of acceptable applicants is referred to the Chief of Police for his review. An applicant rejected at this stage will be notified by the Recruiter of this decision and advised of any opportunities for re-application.


Final Selection

The Chief of Police selects the applicants who will attend the Police Academy, pending successful completion of a medical examination and the Minnesota Multiphastic Personality Inventory (MMPI) Exam.  Should the Chief of Police reject an applicant, they will be notified by the Recruiter of this decision and advised of any opportunities for re-application.

Psychological Evaluation

Applicants will be evaluated for psychological suitability. This evaluation will include the completion of the California Personality Inventory (CPI). Selected applicants will undergo a comprehensive psychological evaluation by a trained psychologist.

Medical Examination

Applicants must meet the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System Physical Standards. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) will also be administered.


Oklahoma City Police Department Academy

Hired applicants will begin employment as a Police Recruit in the Oklahoma City Police Department. An academy lasts approximately 28 weeks and is a non-residential academy. You are a paid employee while you attend and your uniforms and equipment are supplied to you.

Applicant Requirements:


  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • 21-45 years of age. Applicants may complete an application and proceed  in the hiring process at 20 years of age if they will be 21 by the starting date of the next academy class.
  • Posses a valid drivers license.
  • Have good moral character.
  • Be suitable emotional stability.
  • Posses a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Meet the requirements of the Oklahoma State Police Pension Board
